Mass import options

We have an old Minerva Import Tool as part of our Aras Instance. It's written as a standalone webapp, but running on the same webserver as Aras and reusing the authentication cookie - I don't know what was the benefit of doing it this way, but that's what they did.

Now, this tool is getting outdated due to some changes required for an integration. We don't have the source code for the tool so we can't easily update it, it's written in VB for an ancient version of .net anyway so it wouldn't be so useful anyway.

What I'm wondering is, what are you using for mass import of Parts, BOMs, and Manufacturer Parts?

  • Update: The old Minerva import tool was updated and rolled into the latest release of the Aras High Tech Electronics application. You should be able to login to the Aras MFT (replaced Aras FTP) and download it here. If you run into issues accessing the site, you can file a support ticket and they should be able to help you out.

  • Is it this tool?

The Minerva tools where always some kind of restricted and hard to customize due to the DLLs.

Regarding data import, since a couple of years we use our own tool:

It´s  basically a custom version of the original Aras Batch Loader inside Innovator. A second configuration ItemType is used to specify the import type, similar to the original Batch Loader. "Dataloader Royal" can do everything that the AML language and permissions allow you to do: add, edit, delete, merge, import complex structures, and even handle file uploads under certain conditions.

There are many import tools out there, but I like mine the most. 😇 The design is quite plain, but it’s fully upgradable. Let me know if you want to learn more!

    • I had a suspicion you'd already made a custom tool for this :) I think maybe Minerva customized the original import tool a bit for us (long before my time here), but yeah, I think it's basically the same thing. I'll have a look at Eli's download and compare.

Hi Harald, I'm interested in what other folks are doing, but I can also ask around and find out what happened to this tool when Minerva joined Aras a few years back. I'll let you know what I find out!
