Hello,
Using the export tool you should be able to export things based on the selections you make prior to creating your package. You can choose everything or only a single element if that is what you want.

thanks so no need to deal with packages if i'm modifying existing items and want to exports those mods

You will still have to place everything into a package using the default tools, however when selecting to export, you can choose which elements within the package to export.
An alternative, and what I have been using, is Innovator Admin github.com/.../InnovatorAdmin
With this tool, you can locate specific elements and export them without a package defined.
