Disabeling dropdown field on form

Hi I have some strange behaviour on a form. I have added a JaveScript method to disable some fields if the property "kam_is_transferred" = 1. The strange thing is the code below works on text fields ...

Hi Ben, In 11.0 SP12+, dropdowns have been replaced by an input field and a button in order to support type-ahead as you've said. You can disable dropdowns in these newer service in a very similar way to the sample of code that Jill initially gave. Please see the example below which you can use in SP12+. 
// get the form field "container"
var wrapper = getFieldByName("field_name");
// disable the text input of the dropdown
wrapper.getElementsByTagName("input")[0].disabled = true;
// disable the button that brings up the list of options for the dropdown
wrapper.getElementsByTagName("button")[0].disabled = true;
