Hi Bob,
maybe you should wait for SP9 which is due in December (umm....) ;-)
As far as I recall it should be an open release, which means you can download it even if you are not a subscriber.
From all what I have heard on the Aras ACE Event in Berlin last month, performance has improved a lot there, so maybe it's worth the wait.
(Plus it adds support for Microsoft Edge browser)
