Following row give you connection status:

Item loginResult = innServConn.Login();

So loginResult is Aras Item... that has a function isError()... if this function return false - connection is not established. If you want to show user why it not established call function getErrorString() (of the object loginResult ) and show the result to user.   About:

this.Innovator = loginResult.getInnovator();

Yes - my mistake, it was supposed to be:

inn = loginResult.getInnovator();

But probably you will do the same... the inn will be class property and not inside your connection function, cause you will need this object in the second function - where you query Aras for the document.
