Question about Recent Discussions view

Hi,

I took me a while to get back into the forum, cause the firewall decided that Aras is highly sus.

I general I like the new design! But: As somebody who used the previous forum very often, I found the new forum still a bit confusing. Reason: The recent discussion page highlights the recent discussions, but not the recent answers.

For example, this is the most recent discussion right now. We can only tell from the time information (51 minutes ago) that something happened.

In the previous forum, whenever someone posted an answer, we could see the logo of the person who responded. This made it very easy to notice if someone had replied - and ideally, to see who it was. Knowing "who" responded is a very important aspect of this forum.😁

Is it possible to improve this one?

  • Hey Angela, I think the formatting maybe makes the message ambiguous here.

It's totally understandable to interpret the info as "this person updated this thread at this time". However, this is how the data is populated:

Original Author β€’ Thread last updated (by anyone) β€’ Forum name β€’ Number of unread messages (if applicable)

    Tags (if applicable)

I hope that clarification helps. I'll see what options we have to make the view clearer.

Thanks for the feedback, Angela. I'm not sure how much we're able to tailor the Recent Discussions UI, but I can look into it!

Just FYI, Angela, I moved your comments about the Recent Discussions view to their own thread because I think the topic merits its own discussion (rather than getting buried in the new platform announcement comments).

  • Additional note to my previous answer. This screenshot shows the reason for my current confusion pretty well. I just answered a few minutes ago. But right now the main page tells me this:

In my brain I see "Eli answered 9 minutes ago".

But Eli just started the initial post and "somebody else" answered 9 minutes ago. πŸ˜‡

  • I am still confused by the recent discussion page. Am I the only person?

  • Number of unread messages (if applicable) is a helpful one!  ItΒ΄s just a bit hidden as itΒ΄s grey like the rest. If you can make it bold or colored text, do it! :)

If you find a "paging feature" in the settings somewhere, activate this one too! In the past we could go to page 10 or similar in the forum, which was great to watch older posts. Interesting discussions that are around 1 month old are right now easy forgotten.

We don't have the option to configure the styling of the unread messages count, but I can talk to the team about increasing the number of posts discoverable through the Recent Discussions widget on the main forum landing page. We should be able to enable the same "show more" button that you see on the individual forums, which enables you to see older posts:
