Aras PLM BOM import Tools

Hi folks, I'm new to Aras PLM and was wondering if there is an option for users to import BOM (not dataload) to perform the BOM upload changes from one revision to the others. For example: BOM A was initially release with preliminary BOM with 100 components with revision A. Users wants to release a prototype BOM with the next revision B with changes to the preliminary BOM such as adding new components, change existing component quantity, reference designator..etc Thanks in advance, Khoa

  • I am not sure why someone would be changing the BOM outside of the PLM environment.  That defeats the purpose. Can you share the use case?   D
  • Hi David, Thanks. I'm not asking to change the BOM outside of Aras PLM tool.  What we are looking for here is the ability to import the BOM changes going from one revision to the other revision with some changes to the assembly. As far as I know from Aras support team, the current Aras tool does not have capability to perform this task other than using the manual change or create a new method. Here is the use case Assembly 100  with revision A was released with the preliminary BOM which contains 50 components for procurement purposes. When the design ready to release to prototype, engineer wants to release a final BOM which contains additional 80 components and some changes to the existing 50 components (reference designator, quantity...etc). How do we update the BOM with these many changes? Thanks again, Khoa
  • Hi Khoa, The way I saw it for an ECAD integration where a lot of part could change was an import of the new BOM in an Express ECO. so the import of the new version of the BOM could initiate a change process which in the end would release this new version of the BOM. To do so, it was a custom development. In the end it is all AML (XML) you pass to Aras. Does this give you a better idea?
  • Hi Yoann, Thanks Yoann. I was hoping that the import utility to make the BOM change going from one revision to another should be a standard out of the box feature for any PLM system like Agile PLM, Arena PLM..etc. I will discuss this with our internal team and see if they wants to proceed with the custom development for this. Best Regards, Khoa
