SUPPORT Q&A - Cannot edit a Part or CAD Document that someone else has created

Maxo - Friday, January 24, 2014 7:20 AM:

I cannot edit a Part or CAD Document that another user has created. I cannot find which Identity to add for this.

I only get the error message "You have insufficient permissions to lock the item."

Hi Maxo,

Permissions for the part item depend of the lifecycle status of that specific part.

You can open the Life Cycle Map for the part item to see this relationship.

By default a new part is created in the Preliminary state. The permission the preliminary state is 'New Part'

Under the permissions menu open the 'New Part' item

You will see a list of identities that have permissions to update (edit) the part item.

Note: Aras has a couple of built-in identities to allow dynamic permission assignment. 2 of these properties are the item owner (owned_by_id) and manager (managed_by_id). It is possible to change the label of these properties in both the itemtype settings and form settings.

i.e. The owned_by_id (owner) property is called Designated User for the part itemtype.

Thanks, that seemed to resolve the issue.
