Did you catch yesterday’s Boston Globe? It had a rarely captured view into PLM by Boston Globe tech feature writer D.C. Denison: Route 128 at Center of Manufacturing. Denison’s article highlights the clustering of PLM firms in the greater Boston area and picks up on the route previously referred to as “America’s Technology Highway” now also known as the “PLM Highway”.
Peter Schroer and Nate Brown of Aras were highlighted in the article as examples of the talent found in Massachusetts specifically for PLM. Nate commented on just why Massachusetts represents this clustering of PLM talent. “PLM demands that you have a good understanding of both engineering and manufacturing. You have to know the design side, but you also have to know how to get something manufactured. It’s difficult to get that in school, but you can get that experience in Massachusetts.’’
Peter summed up the article by stating “This is where PLM started. You can trace almost everyone’s lineage back to a few great companies, like Computervision. You don’t want to be anywhere else, if you’re in PLM”.
