The 12sp9 was released in august 2020, the declared plan of aras was releasing one new free version every year.

Probably they change their mind ...

Error: Cannot access OAuth Server due to 502 (Bad Gateway)

I'm attempting to install Aras 12 on a Windows 10 machine, following this guide: https://community.aras.com/b/english/posts/configuring-your-development-machine-for-aras-innovator

After a bunch of attempts, I'm pretty sure I have all of the right things installed:

.NET Framework 4.7.2
ASP.NET Core/.NET Core 2.1.8
Microsoft Visual C++ 2015 Redistributable
IIS is turned on and all the correct features are activated
SQL Server 2014

Aras installs without any issues, but when I try to connect to localhost/InnovatorServer, I get "Error: Cannot access OAuth Server due to 502 (Bad Gateway)"

Going to Windows Event Viewer for more details, I get:

Application 'MACHINE/WEBROOT/APPHOST/DEFAULT WEB SITE/INNOVATORSERVER/OAUTHSERVER' with physical root 'C:\Program Files (x86)\Aras\Innovator\OAuthServer\' failed to start process with commandline 'dotnet .\Bin\Aras.OAuth.Server.dll', ErrorCode = '0x80004005 : 80008083.

Googling tells me that those error codes mean:

0x80004005 – file is missing or cannot be accessed,
0x80008083 – code for version conflict.

I have confirmed that the dll is in the OAuthServer\Bin file.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling everything, restarting the computer between each step. I tried doing a system restore and then reinstalling everything. No matter what, I keep getting this same error, and am not really sure how to proceed.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Aras losing data

Hi Team,

I am experiencing a serious problem with my one Aras instance. We are losing data in the system, it is just disappearing without a trace. The user would add data, and then checking the next day, it is gone, without a trace, not even in the history file.

My gut feeling is that transactions in SQL was being rolled back, without being committed. I pulled a report from SQL and there seems to be rollbacks aligned with the data loss.

As part of this Aras instance I am creating a CAD interface in C# .NET. I am exclusively using applyAML() to talk to Aras, I am not using applySQL. Could I be doing something wrong in .NET?

Show part thumbnail onmouseover in search or relationship grid

So let's say I have a list of parts in a view. Whether that's the BOM view of a specific assembly, or the default search for parts, filtered by some criteria such as "engines," either way this is a relevant question.

My users want to be able to hover over (mouse over) these rows and display in a small popup the thumbnail for each part as they move.

Here is a screenshot from the legacy system we migrated from, where the user has moused-over one of the image icons shown, to display the thumbnail for the part in a larger temporary popup window (that disappears when they mouse away from the image icon):

Replicating similar behavior would be ideal, but there are any number of possible alternatives to this that would theoretically work as well.

The end goal is that the user doesn't have to open each part to see the thumbnail for that part and get an idea for what the part might actually be (there are a lot of poorly-named parts in our system due to years and years of inconsistently-applied naming policies, so this isn't something we can simply ignore or fix easily).

Reducing clicks would also be a key factor to a successful implementation of this.

How to use TreeGridContainer

Hi Team

I am trying to use the TreeGridContainer on a form, but the documentation is a bit sparse.

I was trying to go through the blog written by Skyler: https://community.aras.com/b/english/posts/building-tree-grid-containers

but he unfortunately left out a few details. The one bit that he left out it seems is the html code that is required in the html field on the form.

I tried to combine his tutorial with the Express ECO Impact Matrix as an example, but I am stuck!

I would appreciate it if anybody can guide me a bit.

How to pass context id of calling element to custom HTML or TOC view in new tab?

Hi community,

is any one familiar with opening custom HTML pages or Forms in a new tab? I right now work on something similar as shown in this blog article:

The article describes how to open a html page in a custom tab as alternative to a pop-up dialog.
In my case I open a custom Form instead of the html page, but it basically the same concept.

Does any one know how to pass custom parameters to the html page / opened Form?

When we just open the Form as regular pop-up dialog, we can pass the context item and custom parameters within the parameters block just as shown in the code sample.
But how do we pass the context item or other properties to the html page? The blog article unfortunately doesn´t cover this detail.

Would be happy if anyone has an idea or hint that could work!

Starting Page definition in V14 onwards

Hi Team,

Has anyone figured out how to create a custom startup page in R14 and higher?

The "Startingpage List" is still there with the default entries, but the method of defining a new custom page has changed. Previously one would define the visible page in the "TOC View" tab for an item type......But the functionality of this tab has now been replaced, partially at least, by the TOC Editor, but I cannot figure out how to link the form to the Itemtype for the Starting page .

I do see there are some new Dashboard functionality coming in V20. My personal guess is that this could give some new mechanism to add starting pages. It would be nice if one could define multiple tabs to be opened at startup....

Cannot get OAuthServer discovery document

Hi team

Like the rest of the world we have published our Aras now on an external URL. My Aras seems to be working well, apart from one error, when I try to run the checkout manager,

Aras.IOME.CheckoutManager cm = new Aras.IOME.CheckoutManager(fileItem);

I get the following error:

<af:innerException message =" A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond

The system is working 100% if I run the same function with the internal url.

I double checked my OAuth.config file, and there is no obvious errors. We did move to https but it has a certificate and no errors in the browser.....

What did I miss?

virtualGetForm random error

Hi Team,

One of my users is getting an occasional error on viewing the form of a document. It is completely random, sometimes pressing form refresh helps, but sometimes even that doesn't work.

The error in the console says:

Failed to load resouce: the server responded with a status of 404 (Not Found) virtualGetForm:1

Any ideas?

TIP: How to use ampersand in an AML, WHERE statement

I am compiling an AML dynamically to query data in our Aras. The challenge is that some people have been creating documents with the "&", ampersand character in the document names.

Doing a "WHERE" in the AML is a challenge, because one needs to escape the "&", but for XML or SQL Server?

Configuring Alternate Vault Installations

Hi Colleagues,

I am trying to install an alternate vault for Aras V12SP18.

I have set out following the installation guide to the letter, but this fails when the guides says that I should update the file: "C:\Program Files\Aras\Innovator\VaultServerConfig.xml" since this files does not exist in my installation.

Is the "ARAS Innovator - Installation Guide" out of date, or am I missing something?

Please any help will be appreciated, this forum is full of posts requesting Alt Vault assistance, but no clear answer on the steps for creating alternative vaults.

File Encryption

What can we do to add more security to our files, can the files in the Vault be encrypted?

My first take is that one would use a server method on one of the onGet hooks to encode/decode files during the movement from and to the Vault.

Can anybody offer any advice doing this ?

Applying a Filter to a Search Dialog

There are times when only a handful of items make sense for a specific Item property. In these cases, you'll likely want to avoid any potential confusion and display only those items in the results of the Search Dialog. Today we'll be going over an example on how to ensure that only Admin Identities can be picked for an Identity Item property.

Getting Started

You can find all of the code for this project in the search-filtered-item-browser project on the Aras Labs GitHub.

Note: While this project was built using 11.0 SP12, it should be compatible with any older service pack of 11.0 .

Setting Up The Scenario

We'll begin by creating a new ItemType called Search Filter Example. We'll also add a single property with the following information.

Name - filtered_property
Label - Filtered Property
Data Type - Item
Data Source - Identity

Let's add this ItemType to the TOC and give ourselves permissions to add and update these items under the Can Add and Permissions relationship tabs respectively. We'll save our new ItemType and open our Property by right-clicking on it and selecting View "Properties".

In the Event relationship tab of this Property, we'll create a new Event and set the Event property to onSearchDialog. This will call our filtering method each time the Search Dialog for this property is opened. Now let's right-click and select View "Method" to open up the method editor.

Writing Our Filter

In this example, we only want to display Admin Identities to our user. To further the example, we'll also limit our results to only Alias Identities. With these two criteria in mind, the code for our filter should look something like below.

Now let's go to our new ItemType in the TOC and create a new Search Filter Example. When you click the search button next to the Item field, you'll notice that the search criteria we've specified are automatically loaded in to the dialog. Running our search, we'll also see that only Identities whose names end in 'Admin' are returned.

This is great, but we're missing the Super User Identity. In a Search Dialog, we could include the Super User Identity in our search by using criteria like '%Admin|Super User'. However, it is not currently possible to include the OR operator ('|') in our filter criteria at this time. We have two alternative methods of filtering to work around this issue.

Filter By ID

The first workaround is to perform a search within our onSearchDialog event to get the IDs of the items that match our criteria. We can then pass a list of these IDs into our Search Dialog to display only those items. We can do this with code like the example below.

After copying this code into the onSearchDialog method you created earlier, you'll need to close and reopen the Search Filter Example. Now when we open the Search Dialog for our property, we'll notice that the Super User Identity is returned in addition to our Admin Identities. However, it is not possible to edit the search criteria in this example. We can use one other way of filtering to to allow our users to change the criteria from what's specific in our filtering method.

Filter By AML

We can also directly pass in the AML of a query we want to filter our results by. The code below shows how we can accomplish this.

By opening our Search Dialog again, we can see that this way of filtering both supports an OR operation as well as supports the ability to manually edit the search criteria after the filters are applied.
