Searching against a multi value list data type

Good morning!

I currently use the multi value list data type for a product line property in my Part item type. Our products share a lot of subassemblies and components, so any particular part could be assigned to multiple product lines. This makes sense on the part form, where the user can see Part 123 is a member of Product Line A, B, and C for example.

However, this data type has one major drawback that I have not figured out how to overcome: searching. By default, the multi value list uses the 'AND' operator when evaluating multi value list selections as search critera.

For example:

In the Part search grid, if you select Product Line A and search, Aras will return parts with ONLY Product Line A selected; Parts with Product Line A & B, or A B & C will be excluded.

In addition, because the data type is a multi value list and not text, users cannot use wildcard characters in the search bar for this property.

These 2 issues severly limit the usability of the multi value list data type as search criteria. Intuitively, I believe users select Product Lines in their search criteria under the assumption of the 'OR' operator: selecting Product Line A, B means I would like to see parts that are under either Product Line A OR Product Line B OR both.

I've thought about a method that copied the multi value list to a separate property that is text (ex: 'A, B, C'). This would give the user the ability to search with wildcards, but would not help when searching multiple values because then the order of the values in the list would determine the results (ex: with A, B, C = searching *A*C* will work, but searching *C*A* will not).

Has anyone else run into this scenario and come up with a solution?

Using Aras to Manage Aras Upgrade Planning, Test Plans, Test Records

I'm in the process to upgrade Aras, and I'm looking at the topic of Test cases and records. There seems to be some decent documentation about how to do this, it seems to be leaning on some external tool for this (looked around but things like TestRail is expensive... It appears to me to be a good use case for Aras to build in. )

Has anybody implemented an Aras Upgrade Planning / Testing Configuration? Any suggestions or potential pitfalls you see with this?

Seems like if the structure was somewhat standardized, we could build a library of tests to share as a community, like this post suggested

Notify User When a Relationship is Added when the Source ItemType and Related ItemType have matching properties

I am trying to notify the user when a relationship is added where the Source Item has a property of _part_number that is equal to the Related Item property item_number, but continue with the action of adding. Basically just give a warning.

I have tried server side, got the message to be sent with an error message, but that stops the progress of the action.

I understand now that it needs to be a client side action, but I am having issues with getting the Items in the method to get the properties to then compare.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated!

Do I need to create a new account?

We will be migrating over your username and basic information, but everyone will need to reset their password. Instructions on how to do this will be provided when the new platform is live.

Will my information (posts, replies, profile information, and preferences) be moved over?

We will be moving over all of your past posts and replies. We ask that you review and update your profile information and preferences, as different platforms have different settings, and we will not be able to move it all over exactly as it currently is. Also, there will be new badges and rankings on the new platform that will be updated based on your past activity.

Will there be any downtime during the switch?

We do expect that there will be a short time when we will not allow new members to join, and during which current members will not be able to post or reply to others. This short downtime is to ensure that we have everything migrated. We will update this post with more detailed information as it comes closer to the switch.

For any issues with logging in or if you have any suggestions on how to improve the new experience, please contact communitysupport@aras.com. For everything else, please create a support ticket.

How to implement multilingual support in CMF

ARAS 31 Self Service report

I have been looking to generate SSR (Self Service Report in ARAS 31).

I have done that in ARAS 11. But In ARAS 31 the features and UI has changed , and lot of options like Filter, Item property ... ect. are not available .

Could you please hele me to find a way to create SSR in ARAS 31.

In an item, when i click on Navigate option and click on workflow, then i get the error as following:
Error: Item Type with name Null was not found.

This happens when new revision of an item is created.

Please provide solution to it.

Release 36 Relationship Tab Indicators in Release Notes: First Listed, Then Removed - What is Aras Up To?

Hi community,

We are at a point in the community where Aras cannot do anything without it being noticed. Even when they try to keep things secret, it’s usually already too late!

Either it was an accident, or it was a "planned leak" of new features - similar to how Apple handles the iPhone 😅- done just for the fun of seeing if anyone notices and to generate a bit of marketing buzz.

Has anyone of you studied the lastest release notes? A few weeks ago Release 36 was released. In general it contains:

1. A much more modern version of this one: https://github.com/ArasLabs/my-recent-items
2. A fix for this one: How can I use wildcard filters for dropdowns in grid and for predefined Default Searches?
3. And some other quality of live improvements.

BUT: The first version of the release notes also mentioned this additional feature:

But it seems like the Release 36 were updated last week. The new additional relationship feature was now removed.

All jokes aside, I assume the topic was accidentally listed in the release notes. No big deal - it wasn´t even mentioned on the roadmap. Back then in Innovator 11, it wasn´t possible to implement something like this in a meaningful way in the standard product. I didn’t even expect it to show up anytime soon.

But: Is this something that Aras is currently actively working on? I am super curious to see how they´ll solve this on a technical level! This is definitely a feature to look forward to. People will love it!

Building a complicated tree from criteria on its leaves

We have a product structure, fairly common I think (much of is it based on standard packages) where we have deliveries/vessels on top, one or more layers of product assemblies in between, and purchased parts (with linked manufacturer parts) at the bottom. Vessels are a separate item type, as are manufacturer parts, everything else is Part.

Now, the service department would like a view which lets them search for a specific manufacturer product - maybe one which needs replacement due to a recall, or one which requires a software update - and find all the places it's used.

The "where used" isn't good enough, because it has far too many references which aren't relevant for Service (such as all the ECOs that's ever touched the part), also it's bottom up, whereas they would like to work top-down - naturally, when servicing a part, you want to do all parts on one vessel before the next, all parts in one cabinet before the next etc.

So I'm trying to build a tree view from a search, and I find it pretty challenging. AML's recursive search with GetItemRepeatConfig doesn't work well, because if I put a condition, it demands all intermediate Parts satisfy that condition, not just the leaves. I also have to deal with a different Relationship type on the top level and on the bottom level. Finally, it requires a single item (by ID) as the root.

I imagine I'm not the only one having this sort of problem. How have you solved similar problem? Do you have a go-to method for returning (multi)trees based on conditions on their leaves?

CUI Table views not working

We have found a strange issue with the tool. We have found nothing in the available installation guides and support forums, and we would be very grateful if you could help us figure out the underlying issue here.

We have an installation of Aras Innovator 2024 ( 14.0.25.40942) that was working for a while, but last week, it started to throw error messages whenever we open any table view (e.g. the Requirement table), or we use any user interface feature related to this view, e.g., change pagination size, select a requirement, etc.

In each case, the error message relates to the favoriteLayoutData settings being not found. More specifically, the following message was emitted:

> The method 'cui_common_layouts_init' failed. favoriteLayoutData.settings is undefined Client Side Error

We have tried to reset the user preferences and try it out with another user, different browsers, and cleaning up locally stored cookies, but the issue persisted. We have also checked the server logs but have not found anything that might be helpful.

The issue breaks the user interface quite severely, making it basically unusable, but have no idea where to look for possible causes.
