Employee Spotlight: Sam Poe, Software Engineer

Employee Spotlight: Sam Poe, Software Engineer

Where did you grow up?
One Part Washington State, One Part Iowa.

What was your first or strangest job?
Probably doing IT work for the media coverage of the Iowa Caucus. Given the amount of IP phones and network access points, I don't think I've ever seen that much network cable outside an IT supply catalog.

What do you like most about your current job?
I get to code. Previous job, very little coding. This job? ...wait I think my debugger caught something. One moment...

What is your greatest accomplishment, work or personal?
Getting my Master's Degree

Tell us a fun fact about you.
I have a ridiculous memory for book plots. I can pick up a book months later and remember the entire plot after a page or two. Sadly this makes re-reading murder mysteries less than mysterious.

Pick three words to describe yourself.
Inquisitive. Creative. Determined.

What is one thing on your bucket list?
Vacation to Scotland. I went once in college but it was a school trip so what I could go do was limited.

What is your favorite quote?
"...I have always found that plans are useless, but planning is indispensable." -Dwight D Eisenhower

Do you have any hobbies outside of work?
Reading and video games. Oh and food.

You’re about to perform in a karaoke bar. What song do you pick?
Singing? What is this singing you speak of? I might recite that poem about ravens by that guy who shares my last name...

If you could hang out with anyone for a day, who would it be and why?
George Washington. I would ask him what it was like to try and create a country from almost scratch.
