Employee Spotlight: Eli Donahue, Aras Labs Lead Engineer

Where did you grow up?
Alton, NH and Gouverneur, NY

What was your first or strangest job?
My first job was scanning patient records into an electronic medical records system at a clinic.

What do you like most about your current job?
I love meeting members of the Aras Community, brainstorming technical solutions to their challenges, and geeking out about the cool projects they're working on. I also appreciate the creative freedom, learning opportunities, collaborative environment, and diverse skillset that my Aras Labs position has provided me.

What is your greatest accomplishment, work or personal?
I'm really proud of how much I've stretched my comfort zone in the last few years. I'd never even been on a plane before ACE Nashville in 2017, and now I've made more than half a dozen trips around the US and Europe for work. And though I'd still describe myself as an introvert, I've come to enjoy giving presentations and mingling with customers at events.

Tell us a fun fact about you.
I didn't consider computer science as an option when I applied to colleges. I wanted to major in music until I took a CIS department elective during my freshman year.

Pick three words to describe yourself.
Loyal. Creative. Indecisive?

What is one thing on your bucket list?
I'd like to visit Hawaii.

What is your favorite quote?
If you're the smartest person in the room, you're in the wrong room.

Do you have any hobbies outside of work?
I love to cook and host game nights with friends. I also like reading, listening to podcasts, researching my family tree, and singing in a local chorus.

You’re about to perform in a karaoke bar. What song do you pick?
My go-to karaoke song is Breakfast at Tiffany's by Deep Blue Something.

If you could hang out with anyone for a day, who would it be and why?
Patrick Stewart and his foster pups. He seems like a genuinely sweet human being and he fosters pit bulls.
